About Barbados
An independent commonwealth nation since 1966, Barbados is the most easterly of the Caribbean islands. The English speaking island has a population of 280,000 with a warm climate in the 80`s all year. As a democratic country, the political system is based on the British system with elections constitutionally due every five years.
The major sectors of the island's economy are tourism, agriculture, manufacturing and International Financial Services. The banking sector is well supported by the presence of major banks including Royal Bank of Canada, Bank of Nova Scotia and
CIBC First Caribbean International
Bank.
The major
North American accounting firms are represented on the island along with a
number of local firms. Legal services are provided by a number of attorneys,
qualified in local and international tax law.
